Unit 7 - Meeting Aesclepius


1.       I enjoyed this week’s meditation because it involved two of my favorite things; the sound of water and my grandmother.  My grandmother was such a driving and positive force in my life. She passed away 16 years ago so I had lost touch with that force.  By remembering her love and wisdom for me, I was able to connect with the meditation easily.   Meditation has fostered an increase in my spiritual wellness because meditation requires me to slow down and clear my mind.  This allows me to reconnect again with a higher source.  I can continue to use this type of meditation in my life by taking a moment to meditate on my grandmother and connect to her mind, speech and heart to dissolve any stresses I may be having.
2.      The saying “One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” applies to the health professional because I believe a health professional that has experience with what I am currently going through has more compassion and patience with any fears and or questions that I will have.  I definitely will have an obligation to my clients by developing my health psychologically, physically and spiritually.  By doing this, my patients will feel my passion and I will be able to share my own experiences.  I can implement psychological and spiritual growth into my life by taking the time to meditate each morning, continuing to write in my gratitude journal each night and prayer each night.

  1. Focusing on the things or people that are important to us can really help evolve and strengthen our inner selves. I love the sound of water. Just like you, the sound of water is so peaceful and calm. Listening to waves or the ocean brings back positive memories for me and helps me reconnect with my childhood. I'm so glad your grandma has such a positive influence in your life.

  2. It is awesome you were able to find that connection again. I find it very distracting when I here things going on around me. I found mindfulness meditation to work best for me because then I am focusing on my own natural breathing. I found the saying from this weeks reading to be the same saying as I use often just worded differently. I always tell people "practice what you preach." It makes no sense to try to teach someone to build a better life or anything for that matter if you have not done so yourself.

We as health care professionals lead by example or as Kelly put it we have to practice what we preach, because why should clients be willing to follow our advice if we ourselves are not willing to do it. I'm glad this weeks exercise was meaningful to you and able to help you connect with your higher power. That is what meditation does for me.
